Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with Topic Suggestions, here are some common problems and their solutions:

  1. Error Message: “Unable to generate suggestions”
    • Cause: This typically occurs if you haven't authorized your Google Search Console on your publisher dashboard.
    • Solution: Ensure that Google Search Console is authorized. If the problem persists, it could be due to low traffic, low site authority, or regional and language limitations. We are continuously working to improve and expand the service, so please check back later.
  2. Not Enough Data
    • Cause: Insufficient data available to curate topic suggestions.
    • Solution: Verify that your Google Search Console is authorized and that your site meets the minimum traffic and authority requirements.
  3. Issues with Bookmarking Topics
    • Cause: Bookmarked topics data not updating.
    • Solution: Note that the data for Potential and Keyword Difficulty does not automatically update for bookmarked topics. Aim to write about bookmarked topics within a couple of weeks to ensure relevance.
  4. Manually Refreshing Topic List
    • Issue: Unable to manually refresh the list of suggested topics.
    • Solution: Topic suggestions are refreshed weekly (every Monday). This ensures that the topics remain evergreen and relevant, reflecting the current competitive landscape.

FAQs

Why can't I manually refresh the list of topics suggested?

We generate topics every week (currently each Monday) to ensure that the tool provides evergreen topics that drive long-term traffic. The frequency of updates helps in content planning, allowing you to have a current list that adapts to your site's and competitors' updates.

Is the “Potential” score specific to my site?

Yes, the Potential score is tailored to your site's current domain statistics. This ensures the suggested topics are within a reasonable range for your site, allowing you to target keywords that your competition might be using.

What should I do if I get an error message: "Unable to generate suggestions"?

First, make sure you have authorized your Google Search Console on your publisher dashboard. The error can occur due to low traffic, low site authority, or regional and language limitations. We are actively working to expand and improve the suggestions, so check back later.

If I bookmark a topic and come back to it a month later, will the data (potential & keyword difficulty) update?

Currently, the data for Potential and Keyword Difficulty remains the same for bookmarked suggestions. It's best to select topics you can write about within a couple of weeks, as our technology continues to learn and evolve.

How does Advanced Search Options work?

Advanced Search Options allow you to conduct more specific searches using modifiers in the search bar. For example, a comma (,) separates keywords, the subtract/minus (-) excludes a keyword, and the add/plus (+) includes a keyword in the query.

What information will Topic Suggestions provide?

The Topic Suggestions table includes several columns: Bookmark, Topic, Potential, Search Volume, Keyword Difficulty, Covered, and various Actions icons. You can bookmark topics for future reference, see their potential value, search volumes, and keyword difficulty, and perform actions like copying the topic, searching it on Google or Bing, and managing hidden or covered topics.

Topic Suggestions helps you discover valuable topics without the time-consuming process of manual research. It automates analysis, providing relevant suggestions that can lead to increased traffic and better search rankings.
