Video MetaTag Placeholder Selection

Modified on: Sun, 1 Aug, 2021

Similar to video placeholders, video metatag placeholders allow publishers to display videos across pages where the video placeholder URL rule "Activate placeholder on directory" do not apply for them. Instead of using URL path to display videos, publishers can insert a metatag with a unique keyword in their site to identify which videos to be played. To use metatag placeholders:

1. A video placeholder must already exists on the publisher's page. Publishers can create them through the Ezoic Chrome Extension or manually through the video dashboard (will require publisher to copy/paste the video placeholder code into their page.)

2. Publishers can assign a keyword to the metatag placeholder in the following modal below:

3. In the above metatag placeholder configuration, the keyword "forest" is assigned to the video "nature".

4. For the video "nature" to be displayed across different URLs, this requires the publisher to have the metatag placeholder code in the element of their site. For example, if we want to display "nature" only in one of the following URLs such as:

We can display the video "nature" on the path /land if the publisher inserted the metatag placeholder code with the keyword "forest" in it:

    <meta name="keyword" content="land, forest">

Likewise, to display a different video for the path /sea, the publisher can insert a different keyword than the above such as:

    <meta name="keyword" content="blue, beach">

Metatag video placeholders takes priority over regular video placeholders. If there is a video already assigned to a regular video placeholder on the page, and if there is a metatag placeholder with a different video assigned to that page, the video that is assigned to the metatag placeholder will be displayed instead.

Use Cases

    4. Assign video "Animal" to the video metatag placeholder configuration created in 2
    5. Add in the head section to the pages about animal, the video "Animal" will show on those pages

  • Make video "Animal" showing on all the pages with meta tag "animal", and make video "Plant" showing on all the pages with meta tag "plant"

    2. From video dashboard, add another video metatag placeholder configuration using the same video placeholder created in 1
    3. Enter MetaTag Keyword "plant" to the video metatag placeholder configuration created in 2
