Introduction

When a website changes ownership, many publishers assume they can simply hand over the login credentials for the associated advertising accounts. However, according to strict Google policies, Google Ad Manager (GAM) and AdSense accounts are non-transferable. Attempting to "swap" owners on an existing account is a violation of Google's terms and can lead to permanent account bans for both the buyer and the seller.

Overview

Google Policy Compliance

Google treats advertising accounts as legal agreements with a specific individual or business entity. Swapping usernames, passwords, or payment information to a new person is flagged as fraudulent behavior.

  • The Risk: If Google detects an unauthorized transfer, they may ban the current account and prevent both parties from opening new Google advertising accounts in the future.
