Ezoic Ad Tester - Best Practice Guide

Ezoic Ad Tester is a very powerful tool that can drastically increase your ad revenue from your site.  It is capable of testing millions of combinations of ad locations, colors and sizes with minimal work on your part.  However, there are a few basic things you should do to make sure you get the most out of the Ezoic Ad Tester.

1. Use LOTS of Ad Placeholders

You should place a minimum of 15 Ezoic Ad Placeholders per page. We recommend placing as many as you possibly can. Depending on content length, most publishers see best results with at least 25-30 ad units per page. Obviously the system will not show an ad in every placeholder - here is more information on how they work. Think of a placeholder as a place where an ad can potentially go, rather than a normal ad tag.

 

2. Select Multiple Ad Sizes

Try to select as many ad sizes as will fit in each Ad Placeholder, even if you don't think they will work. The system will find the best ones for each scenario and sometimes the results will surprise you!

3. Enable Mobile Anchor Ads

Anchor ads are ads that "stick" to the bottom of mobile devices even when the visitor scrolls down the page. They typically provide a great user experience and can significantly increase your revenue from mobile devices.

 

4. Create Placeholders with every 'Position Type'

Every time a user views a page on your site, the Ezoic Ad Tester will never show more than one ad for each 'Position Type' on that page (e.g. under first paragraph, under second paragraph, etc). Because of this, it is critical that you create placeholders with a range of 'Position Types' - one of each on every page.

In the Ezoic Chrome Extension, each 'Position Type' is shown as a different colored placeholder - which can be useful when you are checking!

5. Create Mobile Ad Units

Odds are that many people are visiting your website on mobile devices. There are special sizes that perform well on mobile devices. We recommend creating many (10-20) mobile only ad units and selecting sizes that work well on mobile devices - generally all the Boxes and the Mobile sizes.

 

 

6. Use Native Ads

Native ads can work quite well on some websites. We recommend creating and placing 1-2 native ad units on each page. Doing this will increase your revenue by 10 - 25% depending on your site.

7. Be Patient

Testing thousands or millions of combinations takes time. Don't fret about a single bad day or even several bad days. Testing requires long term commitment and patience, but the benefits are often astronomical. Depending on your site's size, we recommend giving testing at least 3-6 months to see the full benefits.
