Guide to Changing Video Display Settings

Modified on: Mon, 28 Nov, 2022

Do I have to set these settings every time I want to insert a video?

The defaults we use don’t fit all the needs of every publisher, but there is a way to change them! Beneath the table on the 'Batch Update Embeds' tab, you’ll notice you can set or edit default settings for embeds.

When you click to open that up, you can configure your desired settings to whatever you want, and whenever you make a new video embed with the Ezoic Chrome Extension or through your Dashboard, or create a new video assignment on an already existing embed through the Ezoic Chrome Extension or through your Dashboard, we’ll initialize the video settings to what you save here. Make sure to click the “Save” button once you’ve got your customized configuration.

Please see the screenshot below:

How do I change the settings for a particular video or embed?

Just like creating video embeds, there are a couple of ways to change the settings for them.

If you prefer using the Ezoic Chrome Extension, you can easily edit the settings using it. First, navigate to the page where your video has been inserted, and then activate the Ezoic Chrome Extension. Navigate to the Humix tab, make sure you’re on the View tab, and then click the blue “View Embeds” button.

This will show all of the video embeds currently on your page, both with and without a video assignment. Find the video embed you want to change the settings on, and click the dropdown in the top left corner. Assigned video embeds will either have the assigned video thumbnail displayed behind the green background, or a video embed assigned to a playlist will have a red background with the assigned playlist name in big text in the center, or a video embed assigned to Auto Select will have a purple background with “Assigned Auto Select” in big text in the center.

See the screenshot below:

From here, you can edit the video embed settings, or delete it altogether. If you want to delete the video embed, click the Delete button at the bottom of the dropdown. If you want to edit the video embed settings, click the Edit button, which will open up the same popup you see when creating the video embed using the Ezoic Chrome Extension.

You can change the video assigned to the location if you want, or you can navigate to the second tab where you’ll see various settings for video playback. Change the settings you want, then click the green “Save Embed” button at the bottom.

Your video should now display with your desired settings.

If you’d like to add a new video assignment on an unassigned video embed on your page with the Ezoic Chrome Extension, you can follow a similar set of steps as just described.

Navigate to the page where you’d like to assign a video to a pre-existing, unassigned video embed, and activate the Ezoic Chrome Extension. Navigate to the Humix tab, then make sure you’re on the View tab, and then select the blue View Embeds button.

This will display all the video embeds on the current page, both unassigned and assigned. An unassigned video embed will have a plain green background.

Click the dropdown in the top left corner, and you can either select the Assign Video button, or the Edit button to add a video to this location! Once you’ve selected the video or playlist you want to assign to the location, click the green button at the bottom of the popup to save. If you clicked the Assign Video button in the dropdown, the green button will say “Assign Video”. If you clicked the Edit button in the dropdown, the green button will say “Save Embed”.

If you prefer working with your Dashboard, editing your video embed settings is simple to do.

Navigate to the Humix page on your Dashboard, and then go to the 'Site' tab once there navigate to the 'Embed Video' Section.

Find the video embed you’d like to edit, you can filter search for your video embed to help speed this process up.

Once you’ve found the video embed you’d like to edit, you can click the plus button on the left in the ID column to expand the row, and then you’ll be able to access the particular video assignments on that video embed. From there, you can view the code you’d need to manually insert the video embed to a page, a pencil icon to take you to the stepper to edit the settings for the assignment, or the delete button if you no longer want the video assignment to appear on the page(s) that it’s been assigned to.

When you click the Edit Embed button in this expanded row, you’ll be taken to a similar stepper from when you created the video embed on your Dashboard. The first step allows you to change the location type and video assignment.

When you hit the “Next” button, you’ll be able to change the video settings if you’d like. Once you’re done here, you can hit the “Save” button in the top left, or you can hit the “Next” button to continue to view the Embed Code step.

From here, you can either hit the “Save” button in the top left corner, or click the “Done” button, and your new configuration will be saved.

If you’d like to change settings like the dimensions a video will be displayed as on your website, or the Location Identifier of your video embed, or simply add a new video assignment to this video embed, click on the pencil icon in the unexpanded row of the video embed you’d like to edit.

From here, you’ll be able to edit the Location Identifier, dimensions, and settings like “Allow Auto Select.” Once you’ve got the configuration for each of those settings you want, click the “Save” button beneath
the settings on the left to save your changes.

You’ll also notice a detailed list of all your video assignments associated with this video embed. If you click the pencil icon on an assignment in the list, you’ll be taken to a similar embed creation/editing guide.

If you click the X icon on an assignment in the list, the video will longer appear on the location it was assigned to. If you’d like to add a new assignment associated with this video embed, click the “+ Add A Video Player Location” at the top of the list, and you’ll be taken to a very similar stepper again! Just follow the steps and click the “Done” button at the end.

Note: If you are manually adding the elements to your pages, you might have to add the to your page if this video embed does not already exist on that page.
