Introduction

Are you eager to try out the latest widget, exit popup, or social sharing tool but unsure how they might impact your site’s performance? Ezoic’s Script Tester is here to help! This tool allows you to easily test how new features affect visitor behavior, ad revenue, site speed, and more. In this guide, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of using the Script Tester to ensure that your site remains optimized for the best user experience while experimenting with new scripts. By the end of this article, you will know how to set up experiments, analyze the results, and make informed decisions on which features to implement.

Steps

  1. Access the Script Tester App by navigating to the Content section of the Ezoic dashboard. Click "Settings," then "Content," and finally, "Enable Script Tester."

  2. Click on "Experiments."

  3. Select "Create New Experiment."

  4. Paste a script into Script Tester. Give your experiment a name and select the appropriate placement area. Ezoic will test how user behavior and revenue are affected by the script.

  5. To add another experiment, repeat steps 2-4. The app will test scripts one at a time based on the percentages listed in Script Tester. For example, if four scripts (A, B, C, and D) are set up for 25% each, script A will show up 25% of the time, script B will show 25% of the time, but they will never display together.

  6. Adjust the percentage that each script is shown by clicking "percentages" in the Script Tester App.

  7. View complete reporting of the results for each experiment by clicking "reporting." Ezoic will then intelligently display the script only to visitors who aren't negatively impacted by it.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues while using the Script Tester, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Script Not Showing Up in Experiments:
    • Ensure that the script has been correctly pasted into the Script Tester.
    • Verify that the script has been assigned a valid name and placement area.
    • Check the percentage settings to confirm that the script is allocated a display percentage.
  2. Experiment Results Not Displaying:
    • Make sure you have clicked "reporting" to view the results.
    • Refresh the page to update the results display.
    • Check if the experiment duration is sufficient for the results to be collected.
  3. Scripts Overlapping or Not Displaying Correctly:
    • Verify that no two scripts are set to display simultaneously in the same percentage allocation.
    • Adjust the percentages to ensure that scripts are shown one at a time as intended.
  4. Poor Website Performance After Enabling Script:
    • Review the results under "reporting" to identify if the script is causing a negative impact.
    • Adjust the script's percentage display to limit its exposure to visitors.
    • Disable the script temporarily to assess if performance improves.
  5. Unable to Create New Experiment:
    • Ensure all required fields (script, name, placement area) are completed.
    • Refresh the page in case of a temporary glitch.
    • Check your internet connection for stability issues.

If the above steps do not resolve your issue, consider revisiting the setup steps to ensure all configurations are correct.
