Introduction

Welcome to the FAQs & Info for Leap! This article aims to provide Ezoic publishers with comprehensive information about Leap, Ezoic's cutting-edge site speed optimization tool. Whether you are using WordPress, Joomla, or a custom-built site, this resource will answer your most frequently asked questions and guide you through common issues you might encounter. We'll cover topics such as integration methods, troubleshooting layout issues, understanding site speed metrics, and more. By the end of this article, you'll have a clear understanding of how to effectively use Leap to enhance your website's performance.

About Leap

Leap is a comprehensive tool designed to enhance site speed and performance. It is free for websites monetized with Ezoic. It supports a wide range of websites, including WordPress, Joomla, and custom PHP sites, making it versatile for different platforms. Leap is also compatible with a variety of site types, including informationl or reference, ecommerce, B2B, small businesses, agencies and consultants, sites with or without ads, and those using popular plugins.

Leap is recommended over tools like GTMetrix or Google PageSpeed Insights because those tools do not take into account Ezoic's lazy loading of ads. At Ezoic, we have found that serving ads as quickly as possible was not effective from a user experience or revenue aspect. Instead, we've found that it's better to stagger the loading of a page to ensure that the core content of a wepbage loads first, allowing users to interact with the page immediately while other elements, such as ads and social buttons, load in the background. This way users receive the aspect of the page they came to the site for (the content) first. This method is called "Lazy Loading" or "Asynchronous Loading."

The three integration methods that support Leap are: name server integration, Cloudflare integration, and WordPress integration. Name server or Cloudflare integration are recommended for optimal performance. Because WordPress integrated sites cannot use Ezoic's caching, WordPress integration is approximately 25% slower than the other two methods, which will affect core web vitals and visitor experience, particularly LCP scores. Sites integrating through name servers or Cloudflare should note there may be a delay of up to 18 hours before Leap is usable while DNS records propagate, after which they can fully leverage Leap's features.

Tips and Best Practices

  1. Integrate with Name Servers or Cloudflare: For optimal performance and faster speeds, consider integrating Leap using Name Servers or Cloudflare. This integration method ensures better core vitals and visitor experience.
  2. Handle Script Delays Carefully: If you experience functionality loss or layout errors after activating Leap, try turning off script delay. If that resolves the issue, turn it back on then exclude any relevant scripts from being delayed to maintain site functionality.
  3. Check Canonical URLs: Regularly verify that Leap scores are being pulled in. An incorrect Canonical URL can result in missing field data scores in Leap. If discrepancies are found, open a support ticket for assistance.

FAQs

  1. I am not using WordPress, can I still use Leap?
    • Yes, Leap works on every kind of website (WordPress, Joomla, Custom PHP, etc.)
  2. I haven't integrated yet, how can I use Leap?
    • Sites must be integrated before Leap will work. We recommend name server or Cloudflare integration.
  3. My site's layout seems different after I activated Leap. How can I resolve this?
    • If you experience functionality loss or display/layout errors, please try turning OFF script delay to see if that helps the immediate issue. If it does, you'll want to exclude the relevant scripts from being delayed. You can find more info about that here and here.
  4. Why can't I see a score for my core vitals in Leap?
    • There are 2 main reasons for this
      • The first is that there is not enough data to provide a full field data score for your site, so we have to revert to lab data. You can find more information about Lab vs Field data here.
      • The Second reason for no field score is because the Canonical URL we have in our system for your site is incorrect. The canonical URL is the URL our system uses to pull the data from Google's CRUX. If you see field data in PageSpeed Insights but not in Leap, then the Canonical URL we have is incorrect and there will not be any data to show a score. If this is the case, you will need to open a support ticket at support.ezoic.com and a member of our team will be happy to correct this for you.
