Last Updated a month ago

Introduction

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on the Ezoic Caching App! In this article, you'll learn everything you need to know about how the Ezoic Caching App works and how to effectively utilize it to enhance your website's performance. From understanding what caching is, to accessing and configuring the Caching App in your Ezoic Dashboard, this guide will walk you through each step. You'll also discover how to manage cache settings, manually clear the cache, create exclusion rules, and more. Whether you're a new publisher or looking to optimize your current setup, this article is designed to provide clear, step-by-step instructions to help you get the most out of the Ezoic Caching App.

Steps

1. Access the Caching App:

  • Navigate to your Ezoic Dashboard.
  • Click on the "Leap" tab to find the Caching App.

2. Turn On the Caching App:

  • Go to the Caching App in your Dashboard.
  • Toggle the off/on switch to “on” to enable the app.
  • Note: AMP pages do not get cached by the Ezoic Caching App.

3. Set Cache Duration:

  • The app respects the maximum age cache headers set on your origin server.
  • If there is no maximum age specified, the default caching age is 30 days. This means your pages will be stored for 30 days before being updated again.
  • You can change the default caching age by scrolling down into the Advanced Settings section from the Leap Caching tab. Set the number of seconds under Default Cache Age to your desired caching age, then click save.

4. Manually Clear the Cache:

  • For Entire Site:
    • Click “Clear All” under Clear All Caching within the app.
  • For Single URL/Group of URLs:
    • Enter the URL you want to clear and click “Clear For URL”. Or, in the larger textbox, enter each URL you want to clear and click "Clear for URLs."

5. Exclude Specific Pages or Directories:

  • In the caching app, scroll down to the Advanced Settings section, and click on the "Exclusion Rules" tab, then click "Create New Rule".
  • Select your Rule Target.
  • Enter the page, directory, URL parameter, or cookie to be excluded.
  • Click “Save” when done.

Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing issues with the caching app, consider the following troubleshooting steps to resolve common problems:

  1. Multiple Cache "Misses" in Big Data Analytics:

If you are noticing multiple cache "misses" in Big Data Analytics, this might be due to specific caching rules on your end. Check for the following headers and adjust as needed:

    • Cache-Control Headers: No-cache, No-store, Max-age=0, Private
    • Vary Headers: Cookie, X-Forwarded-Proto
    • Expires Headers: Ensure the date is not set in the past, e.g., Expires: Sun, 21 Sep 1969 16:07:23 GMT

You can modify these rules on your server or request assistance from your onboarding specialist or support team to override these rules within the caching app.

  2. Excluded Pages:
    • If you have pages excluded from Ezoic testing using the Excluded Pages App (Dashboard > Content tab), ensure they are not unintentionally excluded.
    • Verify that no pages are excluded from caching within the caching app.
  3. Cloudflare Caching Conflicts:
    • If using the Cloudflare app for Ezoic integration, make sure there’s no page-level caching conflict.
    • Set Cloudflare caching to "standard" to avoid interference with Ezoic caching.
  4. Incompatible Caching Plugins:
    • If your site uses the WordPress plugin, incompatible caching plugins could interfere with Ezoic’s caching system.
    • Typically compatible plugins: W3 Total Cache, WP Super Cache
    • Typically incompatible plugins: Swift Performance Cache, LiteSpeed Caching, WP Fastest Cache, AutoOptimise/AutOptimise cache, WP-Optimize, SG Optimizer

By following these steps, you can resolve common issues and ensure your caching app functions correctly. If problems persist, don't hesitate to reach out to your onboarding specialist or support team for further assistance.
