Is Ezoic's CDN or The Caching App Working On My Site?

Last Updated over a month ago

Introduction

Wondering if Ezoic's CDN or the Caching App is effectively working on your site? This article provides step-by-step instructions to help you verify whether your site's content is being properly cached and served via Ezoic's global CDN. You'll learn how to identify cache statuses using Google Developer Tools and understand what to do if you encounter cache 'misses.' By the end of this guide, you'll have the knowledge to ensure your site leverages Ezoic's caching capabilities for optimal performance.

Steps

The easiest way to verify Ezoic's CDN is active is by checking for the x-ezoic-cdn response header in the Google developer console. Here's how to use this tool:

  1. Press the F12 key while in a Chrome window to launch the Google developer console.
  2. Click 'Network' in the bar at the top of the console.
  3. Look for your domain name in the list of files (it should be right near the top of the list).
  4. Click the Headers tab and look for the x-ezoic-cdn response header.
  5. If the x-ezoic-cdn header says 'Hit', then the content is being served to the page from Ezoic's cache. If it says 'Miss', then it isn't.
  6. If you don't see the x-ezoic-cdn header at all, then chances are, caching is turned off.

Troubleshooting

If you're encountering issues with Ezoic's cache, here are some common problems and their solutions:

  1. Cache Miss:
    • Reason: Cache misses can occur if you're the first person to visit the page since the cache was refreshed.
    • Solution: Ensure there are significantly more cache hits than misses for your site overall. You can verify this by navigating to 'Ezoic Caching' in the Site Speed tab of Big Data Analytics.

  2. Cache Miss Frequency:
    • Reason: High frequency of cache misses could be due to pre-existing cache rules set by a plugin, extension, or your host.
    • Solution: Check existing cache headers and rules on your site which may prevent Ezoic from caching. These could be set by a CMS like WordPress or Joomla, or directly by your host.
  3. Overriding Cache Control Headers:
    • Reason: You might need Ezoic to override existing cache control headers to improve cache performance.
    • Solution: Before enabling the 'override caching control headers' option in Ezoic's caching app, consult with your host or plugin/extension provider to ensure it won't negatively impact your site setup.

Analyzing Cache Miss Reasons: Use Big Data Analytics to investigate why caches might be missing. Navigate to Site Speed > Caching > Ezoic Caching. Below the graph, click the 'cache miss' hyperlink to view a detailed table explaining the reasons for the cache misses.

If issues persist, further consultation with your hosting provider or plugin/extension developer may be necessary to ensure compatibility and optimal cache performance.
