How do I add a site to my account that is already signed up with Ezoic?

Modified on: Wed, 18 Oct, 2023

Summary: Publishers can now request a domain transfer without needing to get in touch with Ezoic support in the event that a domain already exists in another account.

To verify domain ownership, there are three options available: adding a generated key to your DNS, uploading a file, or adding a meta tag. Once verification is successful, you will be able to proceed with transferring the domain to your account.

Initial Verification

When attempting to add a domain to a publisher account that already exists in another account, you will be presented with this message:“This domain already exists - If you are the current owner of this domain, you can click here to verify ownership and start a domain transfer.”

Upon clicking that link, a modal will pop up to start the domain verification process.

From there, you will be given 3 options to verify ownership of the domain

1.Create DNS Record (Recommended)
Add a DNS record to your domain provider's record list.

2.Upload HTML File
Upload a special HTML file to a specific location on your site.

3.Add HTML Tag

Add an HTML meta tag to your site's home page.

Option 1: DNS Record

This will require a randomly generated TXT record to be added to your DNS records. To do so, please follow the steps outlined below

1) Select record type (we highly recommend TXT)

2) Navigate to your site’s registrar (this is where your domain was purchased) and access your DNS records

3) From there, you will add the generated TXT record to your DNS records. Please ensure that the “Host” is set to “@” the “Record Type” is set to TXT and the “Address” is set to the generated text beginning with “ezoic-domain-verification…”

4) Once this is done click “Verify Ownership”

Option 2: HTML File

For this method, you will verify by uploading an HTML file to your site.

1) Download the Ezoic-provided HTML file

2). Using an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client, such as FileZilla, Cyberduck, or WinSCP, connect to your web hosting account.

3). Navigate to the root directory of your website using the FTP client. This directory is typically named public_html or www, depending on your hosting provider.

4) Upload your HTML file to the root directory

5). Once the upload is complete, select "Verify Ownership”

Option 3: META Tag

For our final verification option, you will be given a specific meta tag to add to the section of your homepage. To do so please:

1) Enter the meta tag

2) Clear any caches on the website, including any caching plugins or CDNs that may be in use.

3)Verify that the meta tag is present on the live site by viewing the page source code.

4)To view the page source code, right-click on the page and select "View Page Source" (or a similar option depending on the browser being used).

Use the Ctrl+F or Command+F shortcut to search for the meta tag that was just entered.

If the meta tag is present and correctly formatted in the source code of the page, then it should be visible to search engines and other tools that use this information to index or display the page.
