Introduction

Welcome to our step-by-step guide on how to update and add DNS records and subdomains. Managing your DNS records accurately is crucial for ensuring your website functions properly and remains accessible to users. In this guide, we will walk you through the process of locating, adding, and editing DNS records within the Ezoic dashboard. We will also cover how to add new subdomains and what to do if you switch hosting companies or are integrated with Cloudflare. By the end of this article, you'll have a clear understanding of how to manage your DNS settings effectively, ensuring seamless website operation and optimal performance with Ezoic.

Steps

  1. Log into your Ezoic Dashboard and navigate to “Settings”.

  2. Click on DNS in the side menu.

  3. If you need to add a record, click “Add DNS Record” here:

    • If you need to edit a certain record, click the pencil icon next to the record you need to edit.
  4. Enter the correct record information:

    • DNS Record Type: A, CNAME, MX, TXT, SPF, AAAA, or ALIAS.
    • Name: This refers to the host name or preferred subdomain or root domain. If your hostname of a particular record is your domain (example.com), you will need to input “@” instead of the full domain.
    • Value: This refers to the destination where the domain or subdomain should be sending traffic to. (Example: A records that point to an IP Address).
    • TTL: This stands for “time to live”. It represents how long the record should be cached by the server. If you are unsure, set this to 300 (5 minutes).

  5. Be sure to click either “Add DNS Record” or “Edit DNS Record” respectively to save the changes.

  6. To upload multiple DNS records at once:

    • Log into your Ezoic Dashboard and navigate to “Settings”.
    • Click on DNS in the side menu.
    • On the DNS settings section, click the option to upload the record.
    • Create a .csv format file with the DNS records you would like to upload. You can download a sample file through your dashboard and then fill in the DNS records.
    • Click on "Upload", find the file on your computer, preview it, and then click on "ADD DNS RECORD" option.
  7. To add a new subdomain:

    • Follow the above instructions and enter the correct subdomain record information. For most subdomains, the process will be the same as adding any other A record, but the name of the record will be the name of the subdomain.
  8. If you switch your hosting company:

    • Update the full list of your DNS records in your Dashboard.
    • Update your IP address to the location of your new host to prevent site downtime.
    • Inform your success manager or Ezoic support team of your plans to switch hosting companies for further assistance if needed.
  9. If you are integrated with Cloudflare:

    • Make all necessary DNS updates within the Ezoic Dashboard first, as these changes will automatically propagate to Cloudflare.
    • Note that changes made directly at Cloudflare will be overwritten by Ezoic.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues while managing your DNS records at Ezoic, here are some common problems and their solutions:

  1. DNS Records Not Matching:
    • Issue: Your DNS records at Ezoic are not matching those at your hosting company.
    • Solution: Ensure that the DNS records in your Ezoic dashboard (Dashboard > Settings > DNS Settings) match exactly with the records at your current hosting company. This includes CNAME, A, @, and www records. Make sure to regularly update these records whenever there are changes at your host.
  2. Website Down After Switching Hosting Companies:
    • Issue: Your website is down after changing your hosting service provider.
    • Solution: Update the full list of your DNS records in your Ezoic Dashboard with the new IP address of your hosting provider. Inform Ezoic support about the switch to help mitigate any issues during the transition.
  3. Subdomain Not Working:
    • Issue: The newly added subdomain is not functioning.
    • Solution: Follow the correct procedures to add the subdomain within your DNS Settings by entering the correct subdomain record information. Ensure that the DNS records for the subdomain are accurately entered and saved.
  4. Changes Not Propagating with Cloudflare Integration:
    • Issue: DNS changes are not propagating when integrated via Cloudflare.
    • Solution: Make sure to update the DNS records within the Ezoic Dashboard first, as Ezoic acts as the main proxy. Changes made directly at Cloudflare will be overwritten by Ezoic.

By ensuring that your DNS records are accurately entered and consistently updated across Ezoic and your hosting provider, you can avoid many common issues. If problems persist, consider reaching out to Ezoic support for further assistance.
