Introduction

The following article walks through the ways you can upload your videos to the Open.Video platform.

Instructions

To upload videos to Open.Video first click ‘Manage Videos’ and then ‘Add Videos’ in the top right of the dashboard.

From here you can upload videos to Open.Video in three ways:

  1. Manual Uploads

  2. MRSS Feed

  3. YouTube Import (Recommended)

Manual Uploads:

The manual upload option allows you to add videos individually from your device to Open.Video. Simply click ‘Manual Upload’ and either drag and drop a video file or hover over and click the ‘Drag & drop video here’ box to choose a video file.

You can upload .MP4, .MOV and .MKV files to Open.Video.

After you have chosen a video file you can edit the pre-existing title and add your own description, category and video visibility.

MRSS Feed:

To upload via MRSS feed simply copy and paste the MRSS file URL and hit submit. Once you have done that, Open.Video makes a request to the URL you provided and downloads the XML file before fetching the media files and uploading them to Open.Video.

Your existing video titles, description and thumbnails will be imported automatically.

YouTube Import (Recommended):

The YouTube import option is recommended for seamless bulk-uploads of content.

If you are linking YouTube for the first time click ‘Link New YouTube Channel’, and you will be redirected to a Google authorisation page to link Open.Video and YouTube. Select the account you would like to link to Open.Video and click ‘Continue’.

Afterwards return to Open.Video and either turn on ‘Auto Import Videos’ or manually select which YouTube videos you would like to import to Open.Video. The existing YouTube titles, descriptions and thumbnails will be imported automatically.

Only public and unlisted videos can be imported to Open.Video, and any videos previously imported to Open.Video will not be imported to Open.Video.

For seamless video importing, we recommend toggling on ‘Auto Import Videos’ - which will import all previously published YouTube videos and future uploads, without any manual action from your end.

If you wish to unlink Open.Video and YouTube at any time, click the trash can icon on the right hand side. You will be able to re-link the channel/account at a future date.

Troubleshooting

Video won’t upload (Manual Upload):
If your video isn’t uploading, confirm that it is in one of the supported formats: .MP4, .MOV, or .MKV. Large files may take longer to upload depending on your internet connection, so be patient if the video file is large.  Upload issues may also result from a weak or unstable internet connection.

MRSS feed not importing videos:
If videos from your MRSS feed aren’t importing, first ensure the feed URL is correct and publicly accessible. The feed must be properly structured XML and include valid media enclosures. Large feeds may take longer to process. Note that videos previously uploaded from the same feed will not be re-imported.

YouTube import not working:
If you’re having trouble importing videos from YouTube, check that the videos are public or unlisted. Private videos cannot be imported. Videos that have already been imported will be skipped to prevent duplicates. If you're experiencing issues linking a YouTube account, try clearing your browser cookies and cache, then re-link the account and ensure the correct channel is selected.

FAQs

Can I upload multiple videos at once?
Yes. While manual uploads are limited to one file at a time, you can upload multiple videos using either the MRSS feed option or the YouTube import tool.

What file formats are supported?
Open.Video supports uploads in .MP4, .MOV, and .MKV formats.

Will titles, descriptions, and thumbnails be imported from YouTube?
Yes. When importing from YouTube, Open.Video automatically carries over the video’s existing title, description, and thumbnail.

What happens if I delete a video on YouTube?
Deleting a video from YouTube does not remove it from Open.Video. Videos must be manually removed from the Open.Video dashboard.

Can I unlink a YouTube channel and link a different one?
Yes. To unlink a YouTube channel, click the trash can icon next to the linked account. You can link a new or different channel at any time by following the same authorization steps.

Can I edit a video’s information after uploading?
Yes. You can update the title, description, category, and visibility of any uploaded video directly from the dashboard at any time.
