Introduction

Welcome to our comprehensive guide on setting up EzoicAds placeholders using the Ezoic WordPress Plugin. This article is designed to provide you with step-by-step instructions for installing, activating, and updating your placeholder setup efficiently. Leveraging Ezoic's best practices, the plugin allows you to manage placeholders seamlessly, ensuring optimal ad placement and performance on your WordPress site. Whether you're starting fresh or looking to refine your current setup, this guide will cover everything you need to know to make the most of Ezoic's powerful ad management tools.

Steps

1. Installation:

  • Install the Ezoic Wordpress Plugin if it is not already installed.

  • If the plugin is already installed, make sure it's the most up to date version of the plugin.
  • Navigate to "Settings," then "Ezoic," and select the "Ad Settings" tab.

  • Click "Let's Go."

2. Automatic Ad Placeholder Creation:

  • New placeholders will be automatically generated if none exist. These placeholders will be named using the “wp_” prefix.
  • The placeholders will be automatically assigned to positions recommended by Ezoic.
  • If you prefer to use existing placeholders for their historical data, opt to keep them rather than generating new ones.
  • Placeholder creation might take a few minutes, during which a message will be displayed on the "Ad Settings" tab.
  • If you already have placeholders created via the Ezoic Chrome extension or the publisher dashboard, default WordPress placeholders will not be created automatically. To generate them, click the "Generate Default Placeholders" button on the Ad Settings page.

3. Manage Placeholder Locations:

  • Placeholder locations can be managed under the “Ad Settings” tab in the Ezoic plugin settings.

  • You can disable placeholders, set placement, or reset placeholder configuration from this page.
  • Note that placeholders created using the Chrome Extension will not be shown here.

4. Page Type Configuration:

  • Configure placements based on the page type (e.g., homepage, article page).
  • For example, you can configure placements based on excerpt location for themes using article excerpts on the homepage.
  • Default settings display the post configuration, but you can select homepage configuration if needed.

5. Edit Display Rules:

  • Specific placeholder placement rules can be edited by selecting the row on the placeholder list.
  • You can disable placeholders, or position them before/after content, paragraphs, widgets, or specific HTML elements.
  • Advanced settings allow specifying which HTML tags to use for placement.

6. Advanced Configuration:

  • Access advanced settings by clicking the gear icon on the upper-right of the “Ad Settings” page.
  • These settings offer finer control over placement and options to start over with the configuration.
  • Options include specifying paragraph and excerpt tags, selecting placeholder embed mode (client-side or server-side), and resetting configurations.

7. Resetting and Clearing Configurations:

  • Use the “Clear Default Configuration” button to disable all default tag placements without affecting customizations.
  • Use the “Reset Configuration” button to erase all placement configurations and restore Ezoic recommended settings.

8. HTML Element Picker:

  • To use the HTML Element Picker, select a placement rule of Before or After an HTML element.
  • Clicking the Select button will open an article in the HTML Element Picker.
  • Select an HTML element on the page to set it as a placeholder reference.
  • Confirm the selection by clicking on the “Use This Element” button and the XPath expression will be filled automatically.
  • Click “Update” to finalize the changes.
