Introduction

As of April 3, 2024, Google requires all new publishers using Google Ad Manager (MCM) to complete a formal identity and address verification process. This is a mandatory safety measure to confirm the accuracy of your account information and protect the ecosystem from fraud. Completing these steps is necessary to continue displaying programmatic ads and, most importantly, to receive your accrued payments.

Steps

The verification process is divided into two distinct stages: Identity Verification and Address Verification (PIN).

Google will typically prompt you for identity verification once your earnings reach a certain threshold. It is important to note that Google will not send your address verification PIN until your identity has been successfully verified first. If these steps are not completed within four months of the initial request, Google will stop serving programmatic ads on your site.

Stage 1: Identity Verification

  1. Sign in to your Google Ad Manager account.

  2. Navigate to Payments > Verification Check.

  3. Under the "Identity Verification" section, follow the on-screen prompts to upload your government-issued ID (e.g., Passport, Driver’s License, or National ID).

  4. Once submitted, Google will review the documents. You will receive a confirmation email once the process is complete.

Stage 2: Address Verification (PIN)

  1. After identity approval, Google will automatically mail a physical Personal Identification Number (PIN) to the payment address listed in your Ad Manager profile.

  2. Postal delivery usually takes 2 to 4 weeks depending on your location.

  3. Once the mailer arrives, return to Payments > Verification Check in Ad Manager.

  4. Enter the 6-digit PIN exactly as it appears in the mailer and click Submit.

Troubleshooting

1. ID Verification Failure

If Google cannot verify your ID, you will be invited to resubmit. Common reasons for failure include:

  • Document Clarity: Ensure the photo is in focus, readable, and free from glare or reflections.

  • Full Capture: The photo must show all four corners of the document.

  • Name Mismatch: The name on the ID must match the name on your Google Payments profile exactly. If there is a typo in your account, fix it before resubmitting the ID.

2. PIN Not Received

If your PIN hasn't arrived after 3 weeks, you can request a replacement:

  • In Ad Manager, go to Payments > Verification Check and click Resend PIN.

  • Note: You can request a total of 4 PINs. If you have exhausted these requests and still haven't received the mailer after 90 days, check your "Home" page in Ad Manager for further manual verification instructions.

3. Address Discrepancies

  • Address Mismatch: The address on your physical ID does not need to match your payment address. Google uses the ID to verify who you are and the PIN to verify where you receive mail.

  • Updating Address: If you need to change your address because the PIN was sent to the wrong location, you can update it in Payments > Payment Info before requesting a new PIN.
